Questions
What is a TTL?
Time to live: how many seconds resolvers may keep the answer before asking again. A change you make reaches everyone within the old TTL, so lower it a day before a planned move.
Why do I see a different answer than my colleague?
Resolvers cache answers for the TTL, and some services answer differently by location. After a change, some people see the old record until their resolver's copy expires.
Which records matter for email?
MX says which servers receive mail; TXT holds SPF and DMARC (at _dmarc.yourdomain) and DKIM keys (at selector._domainkey.yourdomain). The SPF, DKIM and DMARC checker reads them all at once.
How do I know if a DNS record changes?
A DNS monitor on Uptimecheck looks the record up on a schedule you choose and alerts you when the answer isn't what you expect, or when there is no answer.
