Monitoring without the platform around it
Better Stack bundles uptime monitoring with a wider set of observability tools. That suits some teams. Others want a focused monitoring tool that is quick to set up and easy to hand to a client or a new colleague.
Uptimecheck is that tool. It covers what a website depends on, from the first HTTP check to the status page your customers read, and it costs a fixed price per plan, not per seat.
What Uptimecheck covers
- HTTP(S), ping and port checks with keyword and JSON checks
- Checks every minute on every plan from Stockholm, Sweden, with every failure confirmed by a second check
- Multi-step flows for logins, checkouts and API sequences
- Cron job monitors with crontab schedules, run times, exit codes and output
- SSL certificate and domain expiry reminders, with SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks
- DNS monitoring for A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, SOA, TXT and CAA with history
- Server monitoring on Linux, macOS and Windows
- Incidents with evidence, acknowledgements and reviews, and on-call schedules
- Status pages with subscribers, status updates and visitor statistics
- Projects, client dashboards and client reports for agencies with many clients
Who Uptimecheck suits
Uptimecheck suits teams that want monitoring they can set up in minutes and hand over without training: agencies with many client sites, online stores, small SaaS teams and developers. Two-factor authentication, sign-in with Google, GitHub or a magic link, an audit log and CSV export are included on every plan. The app and its database are hosted in Stockholm, Sweden, and backups are kept in Stockholm and in the EU.
Switching from Better Stack
Create an Uptime API token in Better Stack (API tokens › Uptime API tokens, a team token). In Uptimecheck, open Monitors › Import, choose Better Stack and paste the token. Status, keyword, ping, port and DNS monitors come over with their headers, status codes and timeouts, and heartbeats with their period and grace period. You see everything before it is created, and anything that cannot be imported is listed with the reason.
Heartbeats become cron job monitors with a new ping URL: put it in the job, then remove the old one. Nothing changes at Better Stack, and the token is never stored. Run both for a week, compare the alerts you receive, and move over when you are ready.
