//_02 Causes and fixes
Why you see 444 and what to do
Typical causes
- nginx rules that drop requests for unknown host names, from bad bots, or matching attack patterns.
If you run the site
- If real visitors or your monitoring get an empty reply, look for return 444 in the nginx configuration and check which rule matched.
If you’re a visitor
- The server hung up without an answer; try again later, or from another network.
Know the moment your site stops answering as it should
An Uptimecheck monitor requests your page as often as every minute, checks the status code against the ones you expect, confirms a failure with a second check and then alerts you.
