A site health monitor scans your whole site once a day. Starting from the page you give, it follows the links on your site and its sitemap, and checks every link, image, script and stylesheet once.
Create the monitor
- Open Monitors, choose New monitor and pick Site health.
- Enter the Start page, usually your home page.
- Under Pages to scan, choose up to 50, 100, 250 or 500 pages.
- Turn on Check links to other sites to check that outside links answer too. Those sites are not scanned.
- Turn on Measure page speed. Optionally list up to 4 More pages to measure, such as a product page or the cart; the start page is always measured.
- Under Alert on a slower page, choose a mobile score of 90, 75, 50 or 30, or Don’t alert.
- Tick the alert channels and choose Create monitor.
Between the daily runs, use Scan now on the monitor’s page.
What the scan finds
- Broken: links and files that fail, with the page they were found on.
- Mixed content: files loaded over http on an https page, which browsers block or warn about.
- You are alerted about new issues only, not the same ones every day.
Page speed and Core Web Vitals
- Once a day Google runs Lighthouse on the start page and the pages you added, as a mid-range phone on slow 4G and as a desktop. The score runs from 0 to 100: 90 and up is good, under 50 is poor.
- Real visitors shows the Core Web Vitals Chrome users actually experienced over 28 days, from Google’s Chrome UX Report, once a page or site has enough visits.
- What to fix first lists Lighthouse’s suggestions, biggest gain first.
- The alert goes out once when a page’s mobile score falls below your limit, not every day it stays there.
