How to schedule a maintenance window

Updated October 21, 2026 1 min read

During a maintenance window the chosen monitors aren’t checked, no incidents open and no alerts go out. The time doesn’t count against uptime.

Schedule a window

  1. Open Maintenance in the sidebar and choose Schedule maintenance.
  2. Enter a Title, such as “Database upgrade”, and pick the Monitors.
  3. Under Starts, choose Now or Later and the time, and choose how long it Lasts: from 15 minutes to 1 day.
  4. Under Repeats, keep Does not repeat, or choose Every day, Every week or Every month.
  5. Optionally write a Message for status pages.
  6. Choose Schedule. The button says Start maintenance for work that starts now, and Schedule recurring for a series.

Status pages and subscribers

  • Status pages that show any of the chosen monitors list the window, with your message, from 7 days before it starts.
  • For a one-off window, tick Email status page subscribers. Confirmed subscribers get an email now, and another if you cancel the window before it starts.
  • For a recurring window, choose Remind status page subscribers 1 hour, 3 hours or 1 day before each window.

Change of plans

  • Choose Edit on a window that hasn’t ended. A running window keeps its start; change its end, monitors or message. Moving the start of one window in a series takes it out of the series.
  • Choose Edit on a recurring series to change it from its next window on. A running window and past windows stay as they are.
  • When subscribers were already told about a window, Email subscribers the new time is ticked, and they get an email with the new time when you change its start or end. A series’ reminders follow its new times.

End a running window early with End now, cancel one that hasn’t started, or stop a whole series with Stop repeating. You can also start a window from your deploy script through the REST API; see how to pause alerts during a deploy.
