A monitor checks one thing on a schedule and tells you when it stops working. When you create your workspace you can enter a Website to watch: it is checked every minute from the start, and setup shows its first check arriving, then helps you send a test alert and publish a status page. See how setup works. Later, the Get set up card on Overview lists what is left, starting with Add your first monitor.
Add a monitor
- Open Monitors in the sidebar and choose New monitor.
- Under What to monitor, pick the type. The list is below.
- Enter the URL, host or domain. If you leave Name empty, it is taken from the address.
- Under Check every, choose 1, 2, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, or 1 hour.
- Under Alerts, tick the channels that should hear about it. Default channels, such as the email channel your workspace starts with, are already ticked.
- Choose Create monitor. The first check runs right away.
Until an alert has reached one of your channels, the new monitor’s page offers Send test alert, and Overview lists Send yourself a test alert. Send one, so the first alert you see isn’t a real outage and you know it arrives. Later, find it in the monitor’s More actions menu.
The ten monitor types
- Website or API: an HTTP(S) request, with checks of the status code, a keyword, headers or JSON fields, and the SSL certificate’s expiry date.
- Multi-step flow: log in, follow links and submit forms, step by step.
- Port: a TCP connection, for mail, database or game servers.
- Ping: that a server or network device is reachable.
- Cron job: your job pings us, and we alert when it doesn’t.
- DNS records: A, MX, TXT and more, with an alert when they change.
- Domain & email: registration expiry, plus SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
- Server: CPU, memory, disk and reboots, through a small agent.
- Third-party service: Klarna, Shopify, Cloudflare and others, from their own status page.
- Site health: a daily scan for broken links and mixed content, with page speed from Google Lighthouse.

Confirmed before you are alerted
Uptimecheck checks from Stockholm, London and New York, and confirms every failure from a second location before an incident opens, so one blip doesn’t wake anyone. Every paid plan can check every minute, and the Free plan every 5 minutes. More on uptime monitoring; for APIs, see how to monitor an API endpoint.
