Cron jobs, and what they depend on
A missed backup is often a symptom: the disk filled up, the database server restarted or a DNS record changed. Uptimecheck keeps the cron job, the server it runs on and the website it serves in one account, so you see the full disk and the missed job side by side.
What you get for cron jobs
- Cron job monitors on a crontab schedule in your time zone, daylight saving included, or on an interval from every minute to every week
- A grace period from 1 minute to 6 hours before a late job alerts
- Start and finish pings for run times, and a maximum run time from 1 minute to 24 hours
- Exit codes in the URL, and the job’s output shown with failures and in the alert
- Alerts by email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, Mattermost, Telegram, PagerDuty, ntfy, Pushover, webhooks and push notifications on your phone, and a recovery notice when the job runs again
And around them
- Website uptime and API checks every minute from Stockholm, with every failure confirmed by a second check
- Server monitoring on Linux, macOS and Windows: CPU, memory, disk and network
- SSL certificate and domain expiry reminders, and DNS monitoring with change history
- Status pages with subscribers, status updates and scheduled maintenance
- A REST API and an MCP server on Professional and Business
Switching from Cronitor
List your jobs with their schedules. In Uptimecheck, open Monitors, choose the Cron jobs filter and then New cron job. Choose On a cron schedule, enter the same crontab expression and the time zone the job runs in, and set a grace period. Copy the ping URL from the page that opens. With many jobs, create them through the REST API instead: each answer includes the monitor’s ping URL.
Then swap the URL in each job. The ping URL takes the same shapes most schedulers already call: the plain URL when the job succeeds, /start when it begins, and /fail or the exit code when it ends. Copy-paste examples for crontab, Laravel, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, systemd and Windows are in cron job ping examples.
Nothing changes at Cronitor. A job can call both URLs while you compare, so you can watch the same runs in both places for a week before you remove the old one.
A fair comparison
